Time for a job update.

Chris
It still sucks.

That's about it. In the past few weeks, I have been told the wrong time to show up for a remote, wasting an hour and a half of my time... when I confronted the person who made the mistake, she outright lied to me, "I put the time I thought you should be there instead of the time it begins". Liar. It is never done that way. You show up however early you need so that you are set up and ready to go when the event starts, as listed on the schedule.

I have been scheduled to work during football, a stipulation that I would not do when I agreed to work here. I would fight it, but it's not worth it since the Giants play at 4 this week. (How much do I hate Kurt Warner by the way?)

Today I was yelled at via email when I did not provide the requisite 5 testimonials that were asked for. I told them that I receive ZERO phone calls, which means I have to drive out with a cassette recorder and get people to tell me how much they like Kix. When I tried doing that on a remote earlier in the week, the cassette player broke. Thus, until mid-week I had no ability to even record any.

But seriously, I can think of no better way to use my time as one of two people in the building that can do web design, one of two that can repair equipment, the only one that can fix computers, as a capable on-air talent who has the ability to do multi-track editing and the ear to cut down promos for Rick and Bubba every day as well as the creative ability to write liners that are funny... than to send me out with a cassette recorder to record 5 unintelligible people mumbling how they like Kix and also to drive around the Kix Van for a two hours a week for no purpose other than to have it seen around town.

Clearly the last two jobs could never be handled by the bunch of part-time promotions and programming staff that is begging for more hours. It's not like they just have to put a microphone in somebody's face while they get them to read a script! Oh, wait. No, that's exactly how it is.

As far as I can tell, they are trying to get me to quit. But if they think that I will quit before I find another job, they are out of their minds.

In quasi-related news: I just finished building a computer for a sales person at work. Why? Because Cumulus refuses to buy computers for it's employees. Management gets them, but employees must share the four in the media room with the other 30-40 people. As a result, most of that time is wasted by people chatting wait to use the computer. Why spend $1000 per computer when you can waste much more than that in productivity? It's the Cumulus motto! As long as we're spending below budget, who cares if the roof is leaking, people are unable to complete their jobs, thousands are lost in paying part-timers to do work that could be automated, an antiquated audio system and commercial scheduler leave nearly six-figures of revenue wasted by not playing the right spots, when an updated system would make the money it costs back in less than a year?

But keep working 50 hour weeks, Chris! At least you're not making much money and we show you no respect! Be a team player!

Wow, I hate that team player crap most of all.

Good times.

if you want, i could totally go down there and yell at them exactly what you're saying. this way it'll get said, and you're at no loss for flippin at shit at the bosses. i'll be the one going nuts cuz i've got nothing to lose over there.

i know this won't work, but that's the only way i could help out. but if it ever does come to that - i'll come down and scream like the crazy cat lady from the simpson (and did you see sunday's episode with the "vagrant translator"? that cracked me up).

i was training a new part timer today, and she was asking me what it was like to work there, and it took every ounce of my energy to not reveal to her that it was an insane asylum and she should get out while she still can. and the reason that i was able to show such restraint is that once she is trained and starts working, i might actually get a day off once or twice a month. bastards have me working 7 days a week for 4 of the last 5 weeks.
this really really really sucks.
every day i think about just not going in. but ive got a car payment, and insurance, and rent, and student loans, so i gotta have some sort of income.
there are alot of strip clubs around here. i guess i could make some quick money there if i really needed to. i bet strippers don't work 7 days a week.
